New Living Options in Downtown Colorado Springs

As a native of Colorado Springs, it's exciting to watch the city grow and change to meet the needs and desires of the current population. The next big step for the Downtown Colorado Springs area is additional living space, both short term and long term. There are a number of projects I'm looking forward to that will drastically start changing the downtown culture.

First of all, ground has been broken on the first high rise to be built in Colorado Springs since 2001. There's a few reasons for this but perhaps the main one is we have incredible views of the Rocky Mountains and each tall building erected block these views more and more. However, the balance is wanting a more vibrant downtown which means attracting tourists and giving them some options of places to stay in the heart of the city. Currently, there are really only 2 hotels in the core of downtown which include the Antlers and the Wyndham Grand Mining Exchange Hotel. Now, with the addition of the Hilton Garden Inn, we'll have an additional 167 rooms along with shops and hotel amenities like a restaurant and bar.

Next, another loft project is near completion in the core of downtown, just a block from the new Hilton Garden Inn. The Bijou Lofts, located directly across the street from historic Acacia Park, consist of 9-units available for purchase. The original building has been modified and a second floor added where the lofts are located. Units are just under 1,000 square feet and start in the low $300,000's.

About a year ago, there was another project that quickly gained interest and exposure. The Blue Dot Place apartments are a trendy and hip place to live, located on Nevada Avenue next to coffee shops, bars, and breweries. The units filled up quickly and created a waiting list to live here. Now, unit rentals start around $1100 per month and provide about 800 square feet of living space, plus numerous amenities.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the growth of downtown Colorado Springs is what's coming. There are rumors of more hotels, lofts, and apartments all within the next few years as the city works in close conjunction with the Downtown Partnership.
